Rental Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

  • Same Day Rentals
    Please call our team at 619-523-2453 for information regarding same day rentals. Walk-ins are also welcome for same day rentals. 
  • Bike Rental Purchase Credit
    Moment Bicycles allows up to 3 days bike rental fee to be applied to any bike purchase over $1000.  Only applicable on rentals within 1 year of purchase.  Taxes on the rental are not included in this credit.
  • Do you have pedals to rent? 
    NO -- We don't rent pedals as there are several different styles and for our 30 bikes in 6 styles of pedals we'd need 180 pairs of pedals. We are happy to install your pedals, or offer flat pedals.
  •  Can you deliver to my location? 
    YES, we can deliver, but we're not staffed to do it any time.  Delivery can only be done with at least 72 hours advanced notice.  We charge the maximum UBER rate in both directions to delivery location and back for drop off.  E.g. UBER BLACK SUV- from Moment Bicycles to your location at 7:00pm Tuesday is $42.  From your location to Moment is $36.  We'd charge $42+$36 for delivery of one bike (one way delivery, pickup not included).  Each additional bike $20 each. Delivery cost is time-of-day and location-dependent and must be paid prior to delivery.  Please reach out to us with the details of your trip and we can get you a quote, or use UBER to estimate price.  (Remember 1 way delivery requires us to have a special vehicle drive round trip, so we charge UBER Black round trip to our shop.  Please note we will only be able to deliver at specific times that will depend on staffing per day.  Often clients choose to return the bikes by riding them to our store and taking a ride-share back to their location.
  •  I rented for Saturday, but I want to ride early in the morning? 
    As a courtesy, you are welcome to pick up early (the day prior to your rental day after 5:30pm).  This depends on the previous renter returning the bike on time, and Moment staff having enough time to ensure the bike is prepped for you.  Please let us know in advance.
  • Am I responsible for flat tires? 
    YES, we are able to let you borrow a flat repair kit, you are responsible for paying for any supplies used or lost during your rental period (tubes/tires/CO2 etc).  E.g. if a tube or tire is damaged beyond repair during your use, you are responsible for the replacement cost of the tire.
  • What do I do if I get a flat tire during my ride? 
    You may repair the puncture with the available flat repair kit. Or, contact someone to pick you up.  Unfortunately, we do not offer roadside assistance.
  • Are the bikes insured, does Moment Bicycles offer insurance to avoid additional costs? 
    NO, Moment Bicycles does not offer insurance on our rental fleet.  Generally your personal homeowners or renters insurance policy will cover damages, subject to your deductable.  We require 100% payment for any loss or damage at rental completion.  
  • Can you set the bike to my fit? 
    Moment Bicycles is able to set your saddle height, and swap to your saddle if you bring it for us to change it.  We' appreciate renters getting help from our store to make any adjustments to the bicycles.  I.e. please do not do it yourself.
  • Are you near the airport?
    Moment Bicycles is very near the San Diego International Airport.  You can actually see the runway from our building.
  • Can I rent a bike for a month? 
    Moment Bicycles is not set up for long term rentals.  Our maxium rental term is 2 weeks. We are happy to sell you a bicycle to meet your needs for a month or longer.
  • What is Moment Bicycles cancellation policy? 
    Moment Bicycles will refund your reservation fee up to 2 weeks before the reservation start, minus a 5% credit card processing fee. When you book a rental, we pay the credit card company for the convenience of using a credit card.  Moment Bicycles is not refunded merchant fees when refunding your reservation.  Within 2 weeks of your rental reservation start, there are no refunds.  Once you book your reservation, the inventory is allocated to you, and prospective clients are no longer able to rent the bicycles, Within 2 weeks Moment Bicycles will lose the opportunity to rent the bike, so no refunds are offered within 2 weeks of your rental reservation.  
  • Can I change my rental? 
    If your bike rental (bike hire) is more than 2 weeks away, we are happy to change your reservation at no additional cost.  If it is within 2 weeks of your rental period, and the new reservation is for an equal or larger fee, and the rental equipment is available, only the difference will be charged.  If it's less than the original amount, we can change it, but no refund will be given for the difference.
  • How much will I be charged for a scratch on the bike? 
    Some scratches on the bikes are repairable, but like a scratch on a car, they are expensive to fix.  The cost will depend on the extent of the damage, Small scratches to paint will be at least $150 to repair.  
  • How much will I be charged for damage to a bike? 
    Regular rates for labor and parts are charged if something is damaged.  Our bikes are high-performance machines, so it can be significant cost to replace components.
  • Can I rent a bike with CASH? 
    NO - we require a major credit card for rentals, 2 forms ID and a signed contract.  Cash rentals are not available.
